They swapped homes over Christmas during ‘The Holiday’ (2006), so does that mean we can swap with one of the houses below? Here are 5 of our favourite homes featured in festive films – all appropriately dressed for the season, of course.

Home Alone (1991)

Let’s face it, it’s the ultimate Christmas house really. From the light-laden exterior to the red and green ornate interior, this ridiculously large house is the stuff of holiday dreams. Fresh flowers, vintage rugs and stunning upholstery lend character, warmth and a feeling of richness throughout, Imagine hosting a Christmas party here!

Muppet Family Christmas (1987)

Despite Kermit’s reservations, the Muppets surprise Fozzy Bear’s mother – Ma Bear – by arriving at her ‘old farmhouse’ for Christmas, interrupting her plans to go on holidays. Luckily they did, however, as we get a glimpse of this old-school home that really does feel like somewhere every fictional grandmother should live. Cosy, with neutral tones abound, ornate wallpaper and lovely details like Tiffany lamps, this would be a fantastic place curl up and hide from the snow over the holidays – which is exactly what Kermit and company do – with a visit from the Sesame Street gang. Warning: Swedish Chef does attempt to cook Big Bird for the Christmas dinner…

Property of The Jim Henson Company & Disney ABC

It’s A Wonderful Life (1946)

With the Bedford Halls house appearing as classic as the movie has become, despite it being labelled ‘drafty’ by George, we love this 40’s home, adorned with a piano, carved bannisters and fantastic fringe lamps.

Property of Liberty Films & RKO Radio Pictures

The Holiday (2006)

If you love the idea of a cottage for Christmas, here it is. Rosehill Cottage is so beautiful that its slightly concerning roof and tiny bath don’t even raise an issue. Small, super cosy and fitted with many original elements like the wooden beams and stone walls, this place is as classic as they come.

Property of Colombia Pictures & Universal Pictures

Miracle on 34th Street (1994)

Known as the ‘Catalogue House’, Susan Walker’s Christmas gift from Kris Kringle is a serious present. Has anyone else dared ask for something this big? Appropriately dressed for a Christmas photo shoot, this house has all of the seasonal trimmings. And we want it.
